The Saints started off as 4-point favorites in a 40-point game. There hasn’t been a line move yet, although punters are siding with the visitors. In total, 86% of bets placed against the spread and moneyline are on the Jaguars.
Lawrence vs. Minshew
Maybe Urban Meyer doesn’t want Trevor Lawrence to buy his own hype as a generational talent.
For a second week in a row, the head coach has not named a starter for the game and said during the week he still had no idea who would be his starting pivot in Week 1.
TREVOR LAWRENCE DIME

Lawrence looked good in a limited job in his debut, a 23-13 preseason loss to the Cleveland Browns. After getting run over on his very first pass attempt, the Clemson star looked just fine.
He was 6 of 9 for 71 yards, with no TDs or interceptions, his best passing a 35-yard strike to Marvin Jones Jr.
Starter and fan favorite from last season, Gardner Minshew, challenges the rookie. Minshew was 4-for-8 for 48 yards and an interception against the Browns. The second-year pro has a career 1-8 record as a starter.

It’s clear Meyer wants more offensive pop. His biggest concern after the first half against the Browns was the offense generating a paltry 85 yards. If either one can maintain a good offensive flow, you’d think they’d get a head start in the competition – if you think Meyer is actually considering not starting Lawrence.

Winston vs. Hill
Life after Drew Brees didn’t look so bright for the Saints after a 17-14 loss to Baltimore.
Head coach Sean Payton didn’t even address the starting quarterback’s situation, more upset that his team made six turnovers and looked utterly out of place in the loss.
Jameis Winston was named the Week 2 starter, but you can expect almost the same number of reps for Taysom Hill.

Winston has been sitting there for much of the past year but showed a few flashes when called out. Can he reduce turnovers, however? He is only one season away from establishing a historic 30 TD and 30 INT season with the Tampa Bay Bucs in 2019.
Against Baltimore, he was 7 for 12 for 96 yards, throwing a touchdown and a pick.
Here are all of Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston’s completed assists and interceptions from Week 1 of the preseason.

Hill didn’t fare much better, passing 8 for 12 for 81 yards with an interception on his part.
Hill got the call last year when Brees injured his ribs. In those four Week 11-14 starts, he rose to 82 for 114, with 834 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. He also ran for four scores.
Other battles to watch
There is also a stalemate for a catcher’s spot behind DJ Chark, Jones and Laviska Shenault Jr. Assuming Jamal Agnew takes on the returner / catcher role, there is a first-round pick trio – Phillip Dorsett II, Laquon Treadwell and Tavon Austin – leading the competition.

For the Saints, rookie Tony Jones Jr made an impressive debut against Baltimore. Although he had a fumble, the Notre Dame product ran 82 yards on seven ferries, including an 18-yard TD. He also had five catches for 38 yards and seemed proficient at passing protection.
He’s probably already ahead of veteran Devonta Freeman for third place in the depth table, and could work closely with Latavius Murray behind Alvin Kamara.
Payton hinted his defensive starters would see little to no time in this one. With very little depth on that side of the ball, New Orleans just wants to get them into the regular season healthy.
This should allow Lawrence and Minshew to highlight and put some points on the board.
All week Meyer and Lawrence talked about the importance of winning, even though it was the preseason. It is a team that has lost 15 consecutive games in the regular season and 16 consecutive games in total. Obviously, getting a W means more to Jacksonville than it does to the veteran-laden Saints. That should be enough to get them to pass over it.
Picks: Jaguars +4 (-110)
