MCC Foundation’s Afghan Refugee Project Shortlisted for Sports Industry Awards

The MCC Foundation’s Afghan Refugee Project, supported by MCC, has been shortlisted for the Tessa Jowell Community Award for this year’s Sports Industry Awards.

The Foundation has run a program for Afghan refugees since last autumn when they arrived in the UK. The program has been instrumental in helping those in need whose lives have been turned upside down overnight, by giving them the opportunity to exercise and socialize in a safe place, during a difficult time of transition. and intimidating.

Offering refugees much-needed time away from their hotel, families look forward to visiting the Home of Cricket each week for cricket training sessions at Lord’s Indoor Cricket Centre. Beyond cricket, the initiative also provides essential care for refugees; offering traditional Afghan meals to make them feel at home, English lessons to help them create a life in the UK, clothing and special support for pregnant refugees, whose children were born from the start from the program.

The project has been a great success and shows the power of sport, bringing hope, joy and community.

The winners of the Sport Industry Awards 2022 will be announced on May 12.
