For the second time in three seasons, the Denver Nuggets and Portland Trail Blazers will meet in the playoffs. In 2019, the Blazers won an exciting seven-game second-round streak that included an incredible quadruple overtime game. If this match is anything like that, we’re going to be in for a treat.
Despite losing Jamal Murray to a torn ACL, the Nuggets won the No. 3 seed in the West thanks to incredible play from Nikola Jokic, who will likely be named MVP after the season. Portland, meanwhile, also faced its fair share of injuries, but tumbled to grab sixth place and avoid the play-in tournament.

Nuggets: When Murray fell with a torn ACL in April, everyone just assumed the Nuggets would fall to some extent. Instead, they went 12-5 without Murray and finished seeded three in the West for the third straight season. It remains to be seen whether or not they can continue into the playoffs, where Murray’s shooting creation is more valuable than ever. The good news for them, at least in this series, is that the Blazers had the second worst defense in the league this season and should be easy to score.
Blazers: Portland has been making a bunch of edge moves this offseason, but in the end they were pretty much the same team they’ve been for a while now. With Damian Lillard in the lead, they have a high and sometimes unstoppable attack, but don’t keep anyone on the other end. Finally in the playoffs, the latter catches up with them. This season, they placed 29th in the defensive standings (115.3) and joined the 2018 Cavaliers and 2003 Bucks as the only teams since 2000 to finish in the last two in defense and advance to the playoffs.

The Nuggets are favorites at one point, so it’s basically a pick. And with two fairly equal teams, we will be riding with the Nuggets since they are at home and will have Jokic’s best player.
