First look at the T20

England have not played in Pakistan since 2005, but a historic seven-match Twenty20 international series between the sides begins in Karachi on Tuesday.

England were due to tour Pakistan last year to pull out due to security concerns but are now gearing up for a long-awaited series which should help both teams in their preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia .

England in particular have a lot of work to do.

Since Jos Buttler replaced Eoin Morgan as team captain in limited numbers in June, England have had a tumultuous time.

They lost their first T20 series under Buttler 2-1 to India before falling by the same scoreline at home to South Africa in July.

England lost the last game of this series by 90 points in the Rose Bowl and the team seem to be falling behind as the World Cup, which begins in October, approaches.

Buttler has been included in the squad for this series but will not be involved early on as he is nursing a calf injury with Moeen Ali up front.

The big news in the English camp is the return of Alex Hales, who joins the squad following a loss of form from Jason Roy and an injury to Jonny Bairstow.

But even with the extra firepower offered by Hales, England could struggle in Karachi and Lahore, and Pakistan look like a good bet to win the series.

The Men in Green have impressed on the biggest stages, having reached the semi-finals of last year’s T20 World Cup after winning all five of their group stage matches.

And just this month Pakistan looked in good form at the Asian Cup, beating rivals India in the Super Four stage before progressing to the tournament final.

They fell short against Sri Lanka in that final but their preparations are going well and a trip to Pakistan will be uncharted territory for most of this England side, who have five debutants.

Babar Azam was Pakistan’s main man for a long time, playing last year’s World Cup with 303 runs, but he struggled for consistency at the Asian Cup, managing just 68 runs in six matches.

His opening partner Mohammad Rizwan, meanwhile, was the tournament’s top scorer, scoring 281 points, and deserves a bet to top his 27.5 point line in the series opener.
