Qatar to Host AIPS Sport Media Awards Ceremony

Doha: Qatar will host the fourth edition of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) Sport Media Awards, with the ceremony to be held at the iconic Khalifa International Stadium on June 12.

Sports journalists representing organizations and media agencies around the world will attend the ceremony.

The Sport Media Awards, which are considered one of the greatest World Press Awards, are the highest international honors in the sports media industry.

The awards, now in their fourth edition, recognize the best sports storytellers across all media platforms, from photography to video, print to digital and from podcasts to sports blogs.

AIPS President Gianni Merlo hailed the role played by the Qatar Sports Press Committee in holding the annual AIPS Awards Ceremony, emphasizing the importance of the strategic partnership between the two parties in the service of sports media around the world and strengthening its role and professional integrity.

In a statement, Merlo stressed that the world’s sporting capital, Doha, is the perfect location to hold the awards ceremony, especially as the Qatari capital will host the FIFA World Cup later this year.

Merlo confirmed that 80 journalists from different countries will be present in the audience, whose participation and work have been selected in each of the nine categories.

Merlo also revealed that the best investigative journalist will also be selected this time in Doha. Merlo explained that the winners are selected by secret ballot and no one knows the winners until they are announced at the ceremony.

The AIPS President also expressed his gratitude to HE Sheikh Faisal bin Ahmed Al Thani, Chairman of the Qatar Sports Media Committee.

Marlo also noted that it was he who suggested holding this year’s ceremony in Doha.

Therefore, he wanted to express his sincere thanks to Qatar and the Qatar Sports Press Committee for their preparations to host and organize an impressive ceremony on June 12.

Based on the principle that sport is a valuable tool for education and culture, AIPS, with a network of 161 countries, seeks to celebrate those professionals who continue to produce the best and most creative content in the world.
