Previews of Tuesday’s matches

Ronnie O’Sullivan is the most decorated player in Masters history with seven titles and the Rocket can fight their way past mercurial talent Jack Lisowski in the first round of this year’s competition.

O’Sullivan regained confidence with a 38th event title of his career in the World Grand Prix final last month, and it’s a tournament he’s excelled at.

In addition to winning seven Masters titles, Ronnie has finished second on six occasions and only three times in 25 attempts has he crashed on the first flight.

The gifted Lisowski has great performances in him, but they are too rare and his record against Ronnie tells a disturbing story.

This pair have locked their horns twice in this best of 11 format and both encounters resulted in outright 6-1 wins for the Rocket.

O’Sullivan obviously likes to compete with Lisowski, another attacking-minded player with little interest in a security battle, but an open competition will only play to the strengths of the Alexandra Palace favorite.

The evening fixture sees three-time champion Mark Selby take on Stephen Maguire and it might be interesting to side with the Scottish underdog.

The Glaswegian silenced Selby 6-3 in the first round to Ally Pally last season and his results at the end of last year have hinted that he could turn a corner.

Selby will be more determined than ever, but it’s worth noting that these two have an equal one-on-one record. they are locked at the level of 15 wins each and if there’s a time to catch Leicester’s Jester cold then it’s on that shorter format.
