Women’s Ashes 2022 second T20: Australia v England – live! | sport

Hello good afternoon/very early in the morning and welcome in the second Australia v England T20.

Game 1 of this Ashes series turned into a cakewalk for Australia, thanks in large part to a terrific all-around performance from Tahlia McGrath.

With the ball in hand, McGrath turned the game around knocking out both Nat Sciver and Danii Wyatt with some toe-threatening Yorkers. She then tackled England’s 169 aggregate with the bat, arriving at the first drop to join captain Meg Lanning, the all-rounder then produced some pretty scintillating innings. Since then, a few brutally dismissive gunshots have been ringing in my mind.

By making 91 runs on 49 balls and going 3-26, McGrath became the first women’s T20I player to score over 75 and take three wickets in the same game. It’s a STAT.

All of this while enduring the pressure of entering the side ostensibly in place of one of the all-time greats… Ellyse Perry could be seen watching during McGrath’s stunt, smiling generously but perhaps a little nervously under his sun hat.

“I think it’s one of the best rounds I’ve ever seen,” said Tammi Beaumont – a former teammate of McGrath at Adelaide Strikers. Although she admired him, Beaumont and her England teammates won’t want to attend a rehearsal anytime soon.

And England? Well they looked a little rusty on the pitch, perhaps understandable given the upside down run to the streak, they’ll want Dijon to get some points on the board in the remaining pair of T20 games ahead of the four-point Test match ding-dong in Canberra next week.

Jim here with the roll call of my maiden voyage on the good ship OBO, it’s early morning here in South London so any company, thought or theory is welcome – you can email, Tweeter or send me a fax* and let’s see what the next few hours have in store for us.

I’ll be back with the team shortly and give some news, in the meantime I’m off to grind Colombian beans** and try not to wake my nine-month-old son in the next room. Or the 3oo+ months for that matter…

*Just kidding of course, I’m still not sure I fully understand how a fax works?

** Alright, alright – it’s instant Kenco.
